Grand Traverse Area Manufacturing Council

Grand Traverse Area Manufacturing Council supports a sustainable and globally competitive manufacturing sector in Northern Michigan. They promote long-term thinking, education, networking, and collaboration through people and companies that make great things.

Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce

A Chamber membership connects you to the people, ideas, and resources you need to run a successful business. The Chamber also invests in the region’s prosperity by supporting programs, legislative advocacy, and economic initiatives for all.

TC New Tech

This Shark Tank like event held the first Tuesday of every month, highlights 5 new tech products or business ventures at the Traverse City Opera House. Each presenter takes the stage for 10 minutes, 5 minutes to present and 5 minutes of audience Q&A. Presentations are followed by an informal social hour.

FUSE

Formally the Traverse City Young Professionals, this program gives the next generation of community leaders a connection point to develop themselves into the leaders of the future. Networking events and educational programming is offered to help members connect, serve and grow, personally and professionally in the community.

Michigan Economic Development Corporation

The MEDC is the one-stop-shop for businesses, entrepreneurs, and communities which provides resources and serves as a marketing arm in the state of Michigan. They advocate for business development, job awareness, and talent growth globally.

Boomerang Catapult, LLC

Boomerang Catapult is an activist investor group focused on growing early stage technology-based companies in the Traverse City area. A boomerang is a person who grew up or summered in northern Michigan, moved away for education or career, and returns to the area for the quality of life. This company comes from a desire to help any person who grew up in Northern Michigan return to launch and successfully grow their businesses and careers.

Northern Michigan Angels

Northern Michigan Angels is an angel investor organization with local volunteer members focused on private sector economic development. The group’s primary interest is in working with scalable entrepreneurial companies whose potential success will have an impact on the quality of life in northwestern lower Michigan.

Venture North

Seen as an alternative to traditional lenders, Venture North is a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). CDFIs are financial institutions that provide business financing and other services to meet the needs of economically disadvantaged businesses within the 10-county northwest region.

SCORE

SCORE in Northwest Michigan is comprised of more than thirty local volunteer business men and women, both employed and retired, who give their time and energy in support of the emerging entrepreneurs and the growing businesses in the community – all free!

Small Business Development Center

The Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) enhances Michigan’s economic wellbeing by providing free counseling, training and research for new ventures, existing small businesses and advanced technology companies.

Grand Traverse Academy

Grand Traverse Academy is a tuition-free public K-12 charter school authorized by Lake Superior State University. U.S. News & World Report ranked Grand Traverse Academy among the best high schools in the nation in 2013, 2014 and 2017.  The Academy has 1,300 enrolled students.

Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools

GTACS is a parochial school system serving just over 1,000 students in Traverse City. It is a ministry of five local parishes that begin school at 3 years old and spanning through 12th grade. They are dedicated to providing a Catholic education while ensuring educational quality for all families.

Northwestern Michigan College

Northwestern Michigan College is a publicly funded community college that serves people, organizations and businesses. They serve more than 50,000 learners annually primarily offering associate degrees focusing in maritime, robotics, nursing, and beyond.

Northwestern Michigan College University Center

In 1995, NMC established a unique partnership between their community college and several senior universities located throughout Michigan. Together, they offer select bachelor’s degree completion, graduate, and even doctorate programs, all from the heart of Traverse City.

Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS)

Traverse City Area Public Schools is the primary public school district in Grand Traverse County. It hosts twelve elementary schools, two middle schools, and three high schools serving 10,000 students.

Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District

The TBAISD is a government agency that assists local school districts in providing education programs and services to 35 various school districts in 5 counties. They focus on improving student learning, serve children’s special needs and develop teachers’ expertise to maximize learning.

Downtown Development Authority

The Traverse City Downtown Development Authority was created in 1978 to increase property valuation, eliminate deterioration, and promote economic growth in the business district of Traverse City. They operate out of two budgets to implement public capital improvements and continue to grow Traverse City’s vibrant downtown community.

Networks Northwest

Networks Northwest delivers programs and services for the 10 counties of Northwest Michigan. Their services include workforce development, business & economic development, and community development. Networks Northwest is the convening agency for the Regional Prosperity Initiative in these ten counties.

Grand Traverse County

Officially founded in 1851, Grand Traverse County is home to one city, two villages, and thirteen townships. Per the 2010 census, the official population is 86,986, and is expected to surpass 100,000 in the 2020 census. The county is governed by 7 commissioners and a County Administrator.

City of Traverse City

Officially incorporated May 18th, 1895, Traverse City is located in portions of both Grand Traverse & Leelanau Counties. The official population is 14,572 where that number more than doubles in daytime hours. The city is governed by 6 commissioners and a mayor, elected at-large.

Brickways

Brickways exists to improve the lives of those with physical and developmental disabilities. They are dedicated to providing quality independent housing, essential support services and life-giving experiences for adults with disabilities.

Groundwork Center

Groundwork Center for Resilient Communities works with people to build a thriving local farm and food economy; to make towns and villages stronger, more walkable, bike-able, and transit-friendly; and to develop local, clean energy. 

Rotary Charities

Rotary Charities has invested over $58 million in over 1,300 grants to the five-county Grand Traverse region since 1977. Their purpose is to catalyze community solutions by investing in the process and results of connecting, learning, and adapting.

Traverse Area Association of Realtors

The Traverse Area Association of Realtors is comprised of over 600 realtor and affiliate members with over 6,400 MLS listings in the five county Northern Michigan area. Their organization is best suited to help find your business or personal family it’s new home up north!

Traverse City Tourism

Traverse City (TC) Tourism is a nonprofit corporation that serves as the area’s official destination marketing organization. Their goal is to enhance, reinforce and develop the Traverse City brand, telling the story of our beautiful area to potential visitors through advertising, marketing, tradeshows, publications, sales missions, media relations and Visitor Center services.

Munson Healthcare

Munson Healthcare is the premier healthcare system in Northern Michigan. They operate 9 hospitals with over 8,000 employees across several counties. In 2017, the Cowell Family Cancer Center was nationally recognized by the advocacy group Less Cancer for leadership in cancer prevention efforts.

Cherry Capital Airport (TVC)

Traverse City’s Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) makes getting to Northern Michigan easy. With many non-stop and one-stop flights arriving from every corner of the United States, it’s serviced by American, Delta, and United Airlines. It was just awarded the 2018 Michigan Airport of the Year.

Bay Area Transit Authority (BATA)

As a public entity, BATA provides more than half a million rides to residents and visitors in Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. They are the premier public transit authority in Northern Michigan with 120 employees, 2 main loops with over a dozen routes, and a recently released phone app to make all your travels convenient!

Traverse City Light & Power

TCL&P is the public power provider for all residential, commercial, and industrial customers in Traverse City. As a community-owned entity, they pride themselves on low rates and high reliability. In 2017, they began deploying high-speed fiber internet to homes and private sector business citywide, with full county expansion in the works.
